Frequently Asked Questions Regarding The California Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Program
Q: What is the format for presenting the Program?
A: The CPSLEP is set up in four specific courses. Courses one, three, and four are 40 hours each while course two is 32 hours. The recommendation of the development team is that the courses be presented in sequential order. This is an important issue given that each course builds upon the other. The facilitator guide for each course is generally set up for 8 hour days but may be modified for shorter segments as necessary to meet local needs.
There are two specific approaches to presenting this program. The first approach is to conduct the program over a two semester period. Most community colleges utilize a sixteen week semester. This provides for a total of 32 weeks over two semesters in which to present nineteen eight hour sessions. The second approach is to conduct an intensified program in which each course is presented in four or five straight days. In using this approach it is highly recommended that there be a minimum of three to four weeks between each course. An additional option for an intensified program is to conduct it in an "in residence" manner at an appropriate offsite location that provides a unique retreat type setting.
